In this week’s Our Take, Chris O’ Dowd is helping our plants grow through music and dulcet tones, quantum computing is about to make a breakthrough that will allows us to say ‘beam me up Scotty’ a lot more frequently and more online users are opting for decentralised spaces to build communities. Check it all out below!

Valentine’s campaign of the year?

Reformation just named Pete Davidson their “Official Boyfriend” – and we’re here for it.
Most fashion brands go for conventionally handsome models, but Reformation? They’re choosing someone with authentic charm over polished perfection. Pete doesn’t make you swoon – he makes you laugh, shows emotional depth, and knows exactly when to stay quiet. Oh, and after dating Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale, and Emily Ratajkowski, he’s pretty much become the go-to complement for beautiful, talented women everywhere.
The campaign shows Pete doing Pete things:
→ Showing up with snacks → Being patient outside dressing rooms → Bringing all the real vibes
But the genius here? It taps into a cultural shift. In 2025, women aren’t looking for the perfect Instagram guy. They’re after someone who makes them laugh, listens, and shows up consistently. The numbers speak for themselves: 1.2M views and 77K likes in just 48 hours. This is what happens when brands understand their audience and take a creative risk. It’s not just seen, it’s felt.
A q-bit closer to teleportation

Now now, we’re not turning into New Scientist but we felt like this breakthrough in quantum computing deserved a spot in Our Take this week. While teleportation might still be off the table for your morning commute, Oxford scientists have taken a quantum leap towards the future of computing – by successfully teleporting quantum data between processors.
The experiment did only cover just two meters (a disappointing short trip by Star Trek standards), but it does proves that quantum states can be distributed across multiple computers without losing their computing power. To simplify, we are one step closer to a true quantum internet, where processors don’t just talk to each other, they entangle.
Quantum teleportation works by linking two particles in a mysterious quantum handshake known as entanglement. Change one, and the other instantly mirrors it—like a subatomic long-distance relationship. By leveraging this mind-bending principle, the Oxford team successfully transferred quantum data with an 86% accuracy rate, allowing them to run a simple algorithm across two separate quantum processors.
This suggests that the future of computing could be modular, with powerful quantum processors linking up seamlessly rather than relying on massive, delicate single systems. So while you won’t be teleporting to work anytime soon, quantum data is already making the jump – one teleport at a time.
Decentralised Social Media- The New Frontier

The way we connect online is evolving as decentralised media grows in popularity due to a need for more niche community led values. From grassroots activist networks to independent music scenes, a movement is growing—one that values community-driven spaces over centralised control. Enter decentralised social media platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky, designed for users who want more autonomy, deeper connections, and a break from one-size-fits-all digital experiences.
This shift isn’t just about technology—it’s about culture. As digital communities become more global, people are seeking platforms that reflect their unique identities, interests, and ways of communicating. Whether it’s artists in Berlin using alternative networks to share their work or indie game developers in Tokyo building niche communities, decentralised spaces offer a digital town square without gatekeepers.
For brands, this presents both an opportunity and a challenge. Traditional strategies don’t apply—there are no targeted ads, no algorithmic shortcuts. Instead, success comes from genuine engagement, cultural awareness, and a willingness to be part of the conversation rather than just broadcasting to it.
While some social media platforms (you know who we’re talking about) seem set on their path towards oblivion, others are embracing the move to decentralization – or at least accommodating it. Threads users can already follow Mastodon accounts and Meta has plans to increase compatibility.
In the end, decentralised social media isn’t just a reaction —it’s an evolution— and the brands and creators who embrace this shift could find themselves at the heart of more connected, more meaningful digital world.
