In this week’s Our Take, Barry Keoghan is wearing his team colours with pride, an Indian airline is prioritising the safety of female flyers with a new booking feature, Tate Modern and Little Simz are curating a night at the museum, and an artist paints some horses of a different colour.

From Banshees to Red Devils

Barry Keoghan has teamed up with adidas to launch Man United’s 3rd kit for the season that just kicked off. The life-long Red Devils fan fronts a star-studded video to the tune of Underworld’s Born Slippy, giving us all of the 90s feels.

Kit launches have become big productions in recent years, with football clubs leaning into their history and culture. It’s all to ultimately push sales of course, but this one’s pretty good and there’s a lot to unpack.

The 2 minute film is reminiscent of Trainspotting both in its choice of music and camera work, with a host of past and present United stars, showing up in blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos. It’s also shot at an old Man Utd training ground, The Cliff, far from the glitz and glam of the Premier League.

Adidas is no stranger to enlisting the help of A-list celebs to front their football campaigns; like Paul Pogba staring in a Stormzy music video to announce his move from Juventus to Man United back in 2017.

And with a sponsorship package of £90m per year, we’d be pulling out all the stops too!

Safer Seats

IndiGo Airlines is taking a stand, or at least a seat, for women’s safety.

The Airline has introduced a booking feature that allows female passengers to select seats next to other women when flying – a bold step forward in enhancing comfort and safety.

With testing taking place over summer, the feature enables women to select seats marked in pink, indicating they will be seated next to another female traveller, an indicator only available to female passengers during the seat selection process. To make this work, the airline’s system requires passengers to identify their gender while booking to prevent any funny business.

The initiative comes in response to a troubling history of harassment and assault on IndiGo flights, reported by female passengers. After an investigation, the blame was placed on alcohol (a feeble excuse) and there have been calls for airlines to review their policies on in-flight booze.

A start is a start, and any campaign that promotes the safety and wellbeing of others is  a positive move in our books. It’s commendable to see airlines such as IndiGo take ownership of the problem and a stance on protecting women. But, as always, there is still so much work to be done.

Big Night with Little Simz

Little Simz has been revealed as the lates curator of Tate Modern’s “Late” series, in which artists show how they take inspiration from many areas of life – and how these influences form a crucial part of their creative journey.

Taking place on August 31st Simz will be joined by artists Tash LC, Keyrah, Narx, Donch in what promises to be an epic takeover of music, conversation and general good times.

The programme allowed like-minded people to come together and enjoy art after-hours throughout the summer. Previous curators included Uniqlo and Celeste. We wish we could be there.

All the queer horses

Image: Stef Mosebach: Queer Horses

Artist Stef Mosebach combines her love of horses with celebrating queer culture and the results are just magic!

As a child, Stef loved riding horses and hanging around stables. As she grew older, she began to notice a difference between herself and the other ‘horsey’ girls, and found herself isolated doing the thing she loved.

Her love of animals however never decreased and has resulted in her exploring pastures new: Queer Horses. Stef trawls eBay to find batches of printed horse pics, and uses her own typography to celebrate queer culture to create these one-of-a-kind post cards.

We think they’re ah-neigh-zing. See more of them here.
